Criss-crossing the Atlantic every couple of months deludes me into thinking that I am immune to jet lag.  But after touching down back home here in London last Wednesday afternoon – returning from the ITRA Global conference in Phoenix, Ariz. – and walking straight into a maelstrom of Pittsburgh-focused evening receptions, a breakfast-time energy seminar, the Steelers/Vikings match at Wembley on Sunday and a reception at the U.S. Ambassador’s residence in London, I realize that I am not immune to jet lag at all.  I’m seriously struggling to keep up with those indefatigable folks at the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance who have been on the ground here and in Ireland for an intense week of marketing the Pittsburgh region for global investment. (I have to wonder if their seemingly limitless energy comes from something in the Marcellus Shale or the Rolling Rock beer of regional fame).

Although an overwhelming undertaking, it was a genius idea to combine a major NFL game “on the road” with an international marketing mission taking in London, Manchester and Dublin.

The PRA’s continued commitment to the business community in the U.K. and Ireland has propelled Pittsburgh – establishing credibility and long-lasting friendships.

It’s no coincidence that Britain is the second largest foreign investor in the Pittsburgh region with more than 100 U.K.-owned companies and 50 regionally based companies and shares an equally rich manufacturing heritage with Manchester, the birthplace of the industrial revolution and the heartbeat of England’s north west.

Two dynamic cities – Pittsburgh and Manchester – have much in common.  Both are strategic leaders in healthcare and life sciences, ICT, financial and business services – making them natural partners.  And for the sport of it, each boasts world-renowned football teams, even though Arsenal in London will rise to reclaim the English Premier League title.  Manchester United beware!

Even though the Steelers didn’t come away victorious from Sunday’s match, it was great fun seeing the beloved football team of one of my favorite U.S. cities right here on English turf.  Even more fun was seeing some of my favorite friends in economic development and global marketing who proudly call Pittsburgh home.  Cheers!
